Raised access floors allow electrical, data and even mechanical services to be distributed in the floors. The result is that they can be delivered to the location they are required with the minimum length of cable minimising unnecessary use of materials.
Highly serviced commercial buildings are increasingly required to allow flexibility to move desks, equipment and walls at regular intervals. Raised floors allow this to happen with the minimum disruption and fuss.
Fresh air can also be supplied through raised floor systems. Because of the flexibility of the system, air supply outlets can be easily located at each workstation delivering air with optimum efficiency and at the same time allowing occupants to control their own temperature and fresh air supply. Supplying air at low level allows the air to rise naturally to extracts in the ceiling which reduces fan pressures required in air supply systems.
Giving occupants control over their environment has been identified as a key factor in reducing sick building syndrome.
