  • Well designed shelving and storage systems are inherently environmentally sensible as they provide space for the storage of materials in the most efficient manner.

  • Shelving systems that are adjustable and ones which are demountable will often have the longest service life as they are more flexible and adaptable.

  • Timber shelving systems are generally constructed from solid timber, MDF or Plywood. In all cases any timber selected should be sourced from New Zealand sourced, certified sustainably managed sources (for more information please see our timber pages) such as those carrying the FSC or the PEFC label. If they are manufactured from native New Zealand timbers ensure that the timber has been extracted from sources covered by MAF permits

  • Shelving systems manufactured from composite wood products such as MDF or plywood will usually be bonded with formaldehydes and will omit formaldehyde gases during their service life. Low formaldehyde MDF is produced in New Zealand predominantly for overseas markets but is available on demand. Plywood bonded with phenol formaldehyde will emit less formaldehyde over its life.

  • Demountable metal shelving systems can be sourced from steel with high percentage of recycled content
