GreenTips
Newly manufactured aluminium has a high embodied energy content. Recycled aluminium requires less than 20% of the energy of new aluminum. The production of new aluminium also generates a run-off and emissions to air and water that are detrimental to the surrounding environment. Aluminium requires relatively low maintenance and has a life span of 25-50 years if well maintained. It has low insulation and sound-proofing qualities, but presents strong advantages it terms of being a light-weight material that can easily be adapted to a number of uses. If choosing aluminum framed doors or windows, ensure there is an effective thermal break to improve insulation.
