  • Ceiling tiles and ceiling systems are by their nature modular and for this reason it is important to consider the module size when designing commercial buildings in order to reduce waste. A 600mm module is typical in commercial buildings.

  • In highly serviced buildings ceiling tile systems have a significant advantage over sealed ceiling linings in that they allow the flexibility to move light fittings, electrical and mechanical services easily. The flexibility to change internal arrangement with the minimum wastage of materials has an obvious environmental benefit. Some tiles are extremely fragile and can be damaged by any disturbance negating the potential benefits of a flexible system.

  • Indoor air quality and the sick building syndrome are a significant concern for occupants of large commercial buildings. Poorly designed office ceilings are suspected to be a major cause of particulates in the air supplies. Ceiling tiles can be selected which have been rigorously tested or certified by an independent third party to prove that they have minimal or no effect on internal air quality.

  • In commercial buildings artificial lighting can be responsible for as much as 30% of the total energy use. Light coloured ceiling systems or a ceiling tile that has a high light reflectance can greatly improve daylight penetration.

  • A number of ceiling tiles are manufactured with recycled materials. Some manufacturers produce tiles with a recycled content of as much as 70%.
